The Project is participatory in nature. We have made an attempt to document the country, its district-level cultural and statistical attributes. This is an ambitious task, and perhaps, never-ending. The details and diversity of information in a country as large as India, can never be 'over.' Frankly, the Portal is a result of efforts of our researchers, contributors, and ordinary citizens working very hard to bring out stories from the ground and data from government sources. The task of documenting a nation like India, with enormous diversity even within its villages, is enormously ambitious. Mistakes, omissions and errors would naturally creep in. We hope the users will bring them to our attention and we will do our best to revise the content.
We want the spirit of collaboration to be maintained here. It is very easy for anyone to highlight the error and plaster it on social media. That will only dampen our enthusiasm. We're not doing this project for any profit or some personal benefit. We're doing it because we like it, and we hope users will too. In the spirit of partnership, we'd encourage users to help us improve the content rather than merely criticize it publicly. Please note that any errors one may encounter, will be errors of judgment, not intention.
In chapter under 'Cultures', you may see certain aspect not (properly) mentioned, or may carry incorrect descriptions. It may also carry only one-type of description even though many other versions/forms may exist. This is indeed possible. Right now, we have a very small team. But we will be very happy to hear from you, about what all can be included. We will reserve some editorial discretion for quality considerations and for ensuring our overall philosophical vocabulary does not change. But by and large, we would be very happy to add new information that comes our way.
In chapters under 'Statistics', there may be errors in digitization of data, or simply inability to source the data. Please share us the authentic files and data sources for us to correct/expand it. It is also likely that the government source also carries errors which have also crept into our Portal. Please let us know. This will require us to consult with the relevant government depatment as well. We are happy to engage with the government, and request you to bring it to our attention. In fact, through this participatory approach, we may be able to assist and improve government data machinery as well.
The Portal has a special feature, namely, Suggest Edits (displayed on top right on each relevant page), through which users can write to us their proposed additions, modifications or suggestions in the very chapter/district they are consuming. At this stage, we do not allow direct editing on the Portal. Users can also leave us messages here.
Over time, we hope to build a community of our editors and contributors. We'd love to have you be part of this journey.
We believe that knowledge sources are plural, diverse and must be decentralized. We also strongly feel that India lives locally. In that, a major promise of democracy is that knowledge be cultivated and adoped locally. Knowledge production must be in the hands of the people. Our hope is, that over time, users' participation in supplying us with more information will not only make it richer, more authentic and more native, but also more humbling.
We live in a world where narratives compete, and discourses become reason for conflicts. India has something unique to offer, coexistence of parallel narratives, discourses, stories perfectly as peace with each other. The Portal's user participation reflects this towering achievement of humanity that comes from this land.
