Latur's industrial growth began in the 1960s with the establishment of the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC), enabling industrial estates and land acquisition. By the 1980s, it emerged as a major sugar-producing hub, earning the title "Sugar Belt of India." The 1993 earthquake led to improved infrastructure and urban planning. In the late 1990s and 2000s, the city diversified into food processing, IT, and biotechnology. Today, Latur continues to attract investments from multinational corporations, strengthening its position as an emerging industrial center.
