Mumbai City district has a well-organized police network covering key areas like Colaba, Fort, Byculla, and Dongri. Police stations in commercial hubs, government centers, and high-density areas ensure effective law enforcement.

Security is a priority in locations such as Marine Drive, Gateway of India, and Mantralaya, with additional vigilance at CSMT, Mumbai Port, and Crawford Market. Law enforcement plays a crucial role during Ganeshotsav, Muharram, and public gatherings at Azad Maidan.

People commonly address police as "Saheb," "Bhau," or "Dada," while officers use "Sir," "Madam," or informally, "Boss" and "Commander."

Community Perception of Safety

Locals strongly believe that Mumbai is safer compared to other cities in India, with a lower crime rate and a more organized environment. The city's dedicated police force works diligently to ensure public safety and reduce crime. Significant investments in security measures, including surveillance cameras, increased police presence, and improved infrastructure, have further enhanced safety.

These efforts have helped Mumbai earn a reputation as one of the safest cities in the country. Additionally, the city's strong sense of community fosters vigilance among residents, acting as a deterrent to criminal activities.

Graphs

Please Note

  • NCRB data represents combined figures for both Mumbai City and Suburban districts. For consistency, the same figures appear under each district.
  • Data from District Statistical Abstracts comes in financial years, but is graphed below in calendar years (2015 in our graph means FY 2015-16).
  • The District Statistical Abstracts are in Marathi. Translations were done carefully, but some titles or details may differ. There may be some data entry errors. Please report any issues you find.
  • Sometimes districts without data may show empty graphs. We've removed them but let us know if any remain.
  • Some graphs may not render correctly. A hard refresh (Ctrl/Command +Shift +R) usually fixes this.
