Palghar district has a well-structured network of police stations strategically positioned across major towns, talukas, and key areas, including Palghar, Vasai, Dahanu, Jawhar, and Boisar.
The presence of law enforcement is particularly significant in Vasai-Virar, a rapidly growing urban region, and Dahanu, known for its tribal population and coastal belt. Police play a crucial role in managing law and order during large gatherings, including religious festivals, processions, and weekly bazaars. Additionally, industrial hubs such as Tarapur MIDC, home to one of India’s largest industrial zones, require dedicated policing to ensure worker safety and crime prevention.
In local communities, police officers are commonly addressed as Mama, Kaka, Saheb, or Sir, with "Saheb" and "Sir" being the most frequently used titles.
Community Perception of Safety
Locals say that in city-like areas of the district, both children and women generally feel safe moving around during the day. Parents are comfortable allowing their daughters to travel alone within the city for education or daily activities. However, concerns about safety increase after dark, and many parents hesitate to let their daughters go out alone at night. If accompanied by friends (whether male or female), families feel more reassured, as having company provides a sense of security.

- Data from District Statistical Abstracts comes in financial years, but is graphed below in calendar years (2015 in our graph means FY 2015-16).
- The District Statistical Abstracts are in Marathi. Translations were done carefully, but some titles or details may differ. There may be some data entry errors. Please report any issues you find.
- Sometimes districts without data may show empty graphs. We've removed them but let us know if any remain.
- Some graphs may not render correctly. A hard refresh (Ctrl/Command +Shift +R) usually fixes this.
- Thane district was split in 2014 to form the new districts of Thane and Palghar. We’ve accounted for this while graphing, but some errors may remain. Please flag any you spot.
