YAVATMAL

The Yavatmal Police, under the Maharashtra Police, maintains law and order across the district, led by a Superintendent and an Additional Superintendent. The force is organized into six subdivisions: Yavatmal, Darwha, Pusad, Umarkhed, Pandharkawada, and Wani, each overseen by a Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), such as Rameshwat Venjane (Pandharkawada) and Ganesh Kindre (Wani). These subdivisions manage twenty-nine police stations, including Yavatmal City, Pusad City, Pusad Rural, Arni, Digras, Darwha, Wani, Pandharkawada, Umarkhed, and Ner, covering crime prevention, traffic regulation, and public safety. Specialized units, such as the Cyber Police Station, Local Crime Branch, Traffic Branch, and Women’s Cell, address modern challenges like online fraud, road safety, and gender-based violence.

According to locals, Yavatmal residents generally feel safe due to active police patrols and community engagement in talukas like Yavatmal and Pusad. Recent police actions, such as resolving theft cases within forty-eight hours and tackling illegal activities, enhance public trust. Community policing initiatives, like mohalla committees, foster cooperation. However, past incidents of caste-based violence continue to impact perceptions, raising concerns about social equity and systemic issues. The police and judiciary’s efforts, including legal action and outreach, maintain a relatively peaceful environment, though rural crimes like theft remain challenges.
